Source: Use of Russian assets frozen in EU causes law debates

BRUSSELS, Jan 26 (PRIME) -- The use of Russian assets frozen in the E.U. is being discussed because it is problematic from the legislative point of view, a E.U. source told PRIME on Thursday.

“The E.U., together with like-minded partners, is studying and discussing the possibilities of using frozen Russian assets to support the reconstruction of Ukraine,” the source said.

“The legal issues raised are quite complex, this discussion will continue.”

The European Parliament released a non-binding resolution urging to spend the frozen Russian state assets on reparations to Ukraine last week. The E.U. permanent representatives continued the discussion on Wednesday.
